Juneteenth Celebration 2009

Get ready for the 9th annual Juneteeth Weekend Celebration in South Bend, Indiana on June 13 to 15, 2008 at LaSalle Park, 3419 W. Washington St.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the commemoration of Juneteenth, African American Independence Day! This celebration offers fun for the entire family and recognizes African American's struggle for freedom. This year's theme is "Freedom: Continuing the Dream". Your family will enjoy the events this year which kicks off on Friday with something special for the youth Pre-K to 5 th grades. Starting at 5 p.m. the middle and high school students will strut their stuff in an exciting talent show.

Saturday is Family Focus starting at 9:30 a.m. with the Major Taylor Bike Ride and from noon to 8 p.m. it's on with lots of fun, food, prizes, giveaway and entertainment galore!

Sunday winds it up with praise and worship and some of the best gospel talent around. It all starts at 11 a.m.

So bring your lawn chairs and come out and support the 9 th annual Juneteenth Weekend Celebration, June 13 to 15 in LaSalle Park, 3419 W. Washington Street in South Bend, sponsored by the South Bend Chapter of Indiana Black Expo, Inc..

It's free and open to the public!

Get Involved! There are a variety of ways to join us in celebrating Juneteenth. If you are interested in selling goods or displaying your work, download the vendor packet here. You may also volunteer, or simply bring your entire family to participate. You can even participate by making a donation! Donations and fees from this event are used to pay for festival expenses, and help to build an even greater celebration in the future.
