Beautiful
weather, wonderful food and dynamite entertainment summarize this years’ Juneteenth
Celebration. Over 1200 people came out and supported the 3 day event
at LaSalle Park. Juneteenth is celebrated because it symbolizes the
end of slavery. It serves as a historical milestone reminding Americans
of the triumph of the human spirit over the cruelty of slavery. This
was the 3rd year that Expo has been actively involved with Juneteenth.
New this year, Living History Maker Award in which Mr. Ira McKnight
was the recipient; . Mr. McKnight is a former Negro League Baseball
player. The City also issued a Proclamation recognizing June 20 - 22
as Juneteenth weekend in South Bend, Indiana. Over 40 vendors participated
with everything from taco sticks to catfish. Expo would like to thank
everyone for making the event a success! |
